It is with great pleasure that I write a foreword for the wonderful Morden Little League’s 50th Anniversary Season. For half a century, youngsters of all abilities have taken to the pitch each weekend to enjoy the friendship, community and team spirit that the wonderful game provides. That’s 50 years of muddy boots and diving saves, flicks, tricks and wonder goals, team talks and celebrations. I wonder how many of our friends and neighbours have crossed the Little League touchline over that time.
As we all know, such longstanding success would not be possible without the selfless contributions from so many volunteers behind the scenes throughout that time. None more so than the late Frank Adey, founder of Little League Football, who I am sure would have been so very proud to see the Morden Little League reach such a landmark year.
I sincerely hope that the league can continue to be free for all as we all know just how invaluable it is for the children of Merton.
To the volunteers, players, parents, referees, managers, trainers and all involved, congratulations on this landmark year and here’s to 50 more years of the fantastic Morden Little League.
My best wishes,
Siobhain McDonagh MP for Mitcham and Morden
