Please come along to our social events and have a good night out and a laugh with us.
Events
Welcome to the new season at Morden Little League and a special welcome to everyone new to the League.
Throughout the duration of the season keep your eyes open around the Pavilion Café and on the Morden Little League Football web site, www.mordenlittleleague.com, as there will be notices in relation to forthcoming social events. Event flyers are also available from the helpdesk each week.
These social events are very good fun and help to raise valuable funds for the League. It would be great to see as many of you as possible supporting these events, having a good night out and making new friends. There are 630 children and 1,000+ parents out there associated with the league, so we have no excuses not to sell these events out. So come on, join in the fun and come out in force to support the social scene of Morden Little League.
Last year we organised two very successful, well-attended events – a quiz night and a race night, which raised over £1,700. Together we can better that considerably this year, so let’s have a try.
This year, we have already scheduled a quiz night in October, a 60’s/70’s/80’s Fancy Dress Party Night in November and plan another Race Night in March. There will be other events, so keep ‘em peeled for details being announced.
We will also be running some easy, cheap to enter competitions at the helpdesk in the café each month, so come and have a go and stand a chance of winning a superb cash prize.
If you want to suggest a social event that you would like to see organised, please feel free to contact our Social Secretary Jay Watts, whose contact details are listed below.
At the end of the day we want you to enjoy a good evening in friendly company and at the same time raise money for Little League so please make an effort to come along to these events. We need your support and the League Committee would like to get to know as many of you socially as possible.

QUIZ NIGHT 17TH OCTOBER
'We held our second Family Quiz Night on Saturday 17th October at Emmanual Church Hall. The event was very well attended, with over 90 hardened souls making up 11 highly competitive teams, including reigning champions C.A.C.C, who were out to defend their title.
A very sociable evening ensued, with the quiz comprising of 10 fun rounds of a vast mixture of questions to test the intellectual minds (yeah right!) of our teams. The scores were very close from start to finish it must be said.
I think the large amount of alcohol being consumed (none more so than by our very own League Secretary Dennis Jones, who somehow managed to spill a large amount of Guinness over one of his best friends dresses!!) helped contribute to a very enjoyable evening.
Interspersed throughout the night we had the last few guesses for our Guess The Number of Sweets in the Jar Competition, Cash Prize Bingo, a Childrens Wordsearch Competition and Football ScratchCards.
The quiz was finally won by the narrowest margin of 1 point by The Top Guns Team - well done to Mandy, Jay, Jordan, Ryan, Joanne, Bill, George and Frankie. The guys walked away with the very impressive Quiz Winners Trophy, sweets and wine. C.A.C.C finished in 2nd place
Many thanks to George Mellor for kindly donating the trophy and arranging the engraving.
Many, many thanks to all of those who came along and supported the Little League by taking part in the quiz in the right spirit in which it was intended - a fun and sociable evening. Well done to you all! I hope we will continue to see you all, and many news faces, at our future social events.

RACE NIGHT REPORT 7TH MARCH 2009
'The lights go down, a hush descends across the room, the horses are in the starting gates.............AND THEY'RE OFF!!!'
We hosted what turned out to be a very entertaining and successful Race Night on Saturday 7th March at AFC Wimbledon's Ground.
A excellent turnout of around 120 hard cash punters, ranging from about 2 years old to 102, attended the evening laden with bucket loads of cash to flutter on the nags and to guzzle at the bar.
Also on offer was an excellent range of cold buffet food - Our very special and deserving thanks go to Sheila Jones, Eva Blyth and Sara-Jane Watts for their enormous efforts in planning, buying and preparing the food for us, which was very well received and complimented on by all of the guests at the Race Night - Thank You so much ladies for being so willing and reliable to provide your support with the buffet.
Throughout the night the stampede to the Tote Betting Desk was very impressive, keeping our 4 bookies very busy indeed, as wager after wager was laid down with many a punter collecting some winnings from the 8 races we ran.
We had 7 lucky winning horse owners on the night, each receiving a prize of £15.00 cash and a Bottle of Wine - the winners were: -
Race 1 - John Grice (Diamond Geezer)
Race 2 - Dave & Linda Smith (Ginger Whinger Minger)
Race 3 - Shaun Goldfinch (Sir Winalot)
Race 4 - Tina Stephens (AlwaysCumsFirst)
Race 5 - Andy Sloan (Beef-A-Roni)
Race 6 - Matthew Whittington (Scooby Snack)
Race 7 - Tina Stephens (AGAIN!!) (Pony Soprano)
Well done to the 'Tote Team' for all of your efforts with taking the bets and paying out the winnings, but also for winning the big prize on the final 'Auction Race'.
Further, congratulations to the following 3 winners of our Childrens Wordsearch Competition, each receiving a Goody Bag:-
We were also fortunate to have been very well supported by a number of local businesses, who kindly donated a range of excellent prizes (23 in total) for us to raffle off on the evening to assist with our fundraising. Very generous indeed it must be said which made our raffle all the more inviting and was well supported by all. Our express thanks are being sent to each of the businesses for their kind donations.
All in all a very enjoyable and fun packed evening was had by all. The funds raised for Morden Little League on the night were £825.00, and we are anticipating that we will be awarded an additional charitable donation of £500.00 by HSBC Bank plc, which will boost our profits from this event to £1,325.00 in all. Well done everybody and thank you for your support.
This is our second successful social event in 4 months, following the Quiz Night in November, and both have been very well attended and have been a notable success, not only for fundrasing but also for providing a very enjoyable social evening for all.
Why not come to our 60's, 70's & 80's Party Night on 14th November @ Sutton United FC? C'mon, join the fun and make new friends at Morden Little Leagues Social Events.

Quiz Night Report
'We held a very enjoyable and successful quiz night on Friday 21st November at Goals Soccer Center in New Malden.
Attended by around 100 adults and children, the evening passed off without any controversy, largely owing to the late withdrawal of our very own mad Scottish Cafe Administrator Shirley-Anne Cummings and her team - just as well, as she had threatened a repeat of the jocks at Wembley in 1977 when they nicked our goalposts, only this time she was planning to nick the goalposts from the boys 5-a-side pitches!! Glad to report these are still safely intact.
Comprising of 10 rounds of a mixture of general knowledge, pictures and basically pure guesswork/sheer luck questions, it was apparent from the outset that the final scores were going to be very low, as the teams struggled with difficult trivia as to 'The colour of Scooby-Doo's dog collar' and 'How many calories in a Big Mac'.
A word here to quiz teams entering future quizzes - asking the questions for 3 and a half hours is very THIRSTY work, so in future all beers purchased for yours truly quizmaster would be much appreciated. Thank yoop.
The quiz was won by a team affectionately known as C.A.C.C (captained by Little League Treasurer Mark Goldfinch), although C.A.C.C by name and not by nature as they led the field virtually from start to finish, which is actually quite sad as they obviously watch a lot of kids TV and films between them as they somehow managed to answer nearly all of the kids questions. Are you guys unemployed or do you just indulge in hours of CBBC when your wives and girlfriends are out?
Wooden Spoonists were Edens United, captained by Lisa Eden. Game effort guys and thank you for keeping up a good effort and spirit.
The quiz night helped to raise £265 for Little League, which was a very welcome surprise.
My thanks to all of you who attended what was intended to be a fun social night and I hope you enjoyed it. Onto the Race Night in March - Hope to see you all there.
