SURREY COUNTY FA - Have your say on local football

Players, coaches and the football workforce throughout Surrey County FA are invited to have their say on the future of the grassroots game locally by taking part in this year’s online survey.

The Surrey County FA are now half way through the second year of their four year Strategy and they want to know how you think they are doing.

Surrey County FA, County Secretary, Ray Ward commented: “Our football workforce has shaped The FA’s National Game Strategy which resulted in a four year investment worth £220m across the country from The Football Association.

“Once again, we’re looking for the voice of local football people to tell us how we’re doing and what still needs to be done to keep the grassroots game heading in a positive direction”.

The Surrey County FA Strategy started on 1 st July 2008 and runs until June 2012. This third annual survey is to gain invaluable feedback on how you think we are doing.

In 2009 67% of respondents rated the success of Surrey County FA in improving grassroots football locally as either Good, Very Good or Excellent. Our target is to increase this percentage to 75% by 2010.

The survey will only take about ten minutes to have your say, and this year we are offering some tempting incentives to get involved.

To access the survey visit www.surreyfa.com

Hard copies of the survey are available by contacting the FA’s Customer Relations team on 0844 980 8200. The deadline for responses is Sunday 14 th February 2010. For further information contact C aroline McRoyall , County Development Manager, Mobile: 07917 392823 Email: caroline.mcroyall@surreyfa.com

Morden Little League trip to Holland – 3 rd June to 6 th June 2010

Invitation to Senior and Junior Boys

Don’t miss this opportunity!

As in each even year since 1984, Morden Little League has again been invited to enter three teams into the International Tournament hosted by our friends, the Groen Wit 62 Football Club in Apeldoorn, Holland. Forty-two boys and around fourteen supervising adults from the League will travel by coach to Holland on 3 rd June, spend three nights in Apeldoorn and return by coach on 6 th June.

Whilst in Holland, boys are paired up with a friend and stay with a host family from the Groen Wit 62 football club with children of a similar age. Although the itinerary has not yet been finalised, in previous years the trip has included a tour around the Ajax Stadium and day out at a theme park on the Friday as well as the all day football tournament on the Saturday.

The cost of the trip is £90 per child. An opportunity will be given to raise all or part of the cost through a sponsored penalty competition to be held in March.

If you are still in doubt just ask any of the boys who have previously been out to Holland and they will tell you what a great time they had.

Application forms are available from the Help Desk in the café or can be downloaded from Morden Little League website. If you need any further information please contact John Grice on 07838 173748.

SPONSORED WALK

As you know 17 of our hardy volunteers took part in a sponsored 11 mile walk on Saturday 27 th February.

We started our walk at 1 p.m. and in spite of all the blisters and aching feet and legs, we all got back to The Surrey Arms in one piece at 6.p.m. in extremely good spirits.

To round off the evening there was live music and a buffet and all who attended had a great time.

The icing on the cake was that we collected £211 during our trek from Leicester Square back to The Surrey Arms and a further £50 was raised by auctioning off 2 bottles of champagne, kindly provided by the governor of the pub and along with a few more donations during the evening the grand total raised on the day was £282.30.

If you haven’t had a chance yet to sponsor anyone, there will be an opportunity next Saturday, when a few of us will be coming round pitch side with the donation buckets and we would like to think you would throw in your loose change.

Remember that free football is provided every week for your children and without events such as this and kind donations throughout the season from well wishers, we would not have been going for 42 years. We have lost a lot of revenue in the café this season from all the cancelled games, so please give as generously as you can when the buckets come round next week.

See you all Saturday – weather permitting.

Dennis Jones

Secretary
